Same goes for putting aux busses to outputs and PA feeds, etc. Bingo you are patched to your rack inputs. You can select as many as you want on the source side (say the stage rack) by grabbing with a mouse and then you just click on the first one in destination (like the mixer channels) it patches how ever many you grabbed all at once.

It goes quickly in auto patch if things are all lining up chronologically. One side is the source and the other side is the destination. Patching the I/O panel may seem different, but to me if you think about it like a physical rack or connector panel it’s fine for me. In my opinion, that’s not a deal killer for me because volunteers will run or operate the thing, do basic changes, but not as much program it or set it up from scratch. If you do it all from the surface, it may be a little slower. Now, I used the offline editor before I even saw the surface, so I’m really attacking it from that direction. I’ve setup an SD9 Digico and this midas was easier than that, but it’s harder than say the Avid or Yamaha stuff. So getting a show setup was harder to do than some other consoles. But really to me it was more on the programming end of things… In other words getting the console new, it’s just like any new board, you have to totally go through it and set up a show. I worked the console during soundcheck beginning so I can get things dialed in with EQ, processing and any feedback problems. I was really proud of Scott for doing his homework and was very amused at him showing the vendor things about THEIR product. (YES, reading the manual!) I had not done as much but still was doing pretty good within the first hour or so.

One of the volunteers here at First Free was very excited to have this demo and he has been doing more research than I have online and watching anything he could video wise and reading the manual. If I needed to we could have done some of this on the fly, but it’s always best obviously if you don’t have everything going on when trying to gate/compress toms or something like that. I was able to get things dialed in pretty quickly. This was starting from scratch as far as Gain, EQ, processing, etc. So I had time to get drum sounds and go through each instrument individually, etc. Now granted, we were setting rehearsal up for a big sound check because we knew this console was coming. So really, I probably had about an hour or so before we had to start. Basically I didn’t get back until almost time for rehearsal. Well life happens, I got a call from home, and I had to go and deal with an emergency.
So then I thought I was going to have the after noon to play on it then we have rehearsal that night. They guys made sure we had sound coming out of it to our PA and they were gone. So, I had my show ready, the guys came, dropped off the console, I took my USB stick and voila, there it was. I wouldn’t use Scene 1 as a part of a show, I would copy to scene 2 as say a walk in then go from there.
Scene 1 will be something you have for your default. Again I could be missing something with having no training, but this is how I found it to work. The Midas has a show file but really you have to use Scene 1 to create and save all your settings. I still think Avid has an awesome work flow when it comes to show file then snapshots with in each show.
I’m just trying to get ahead of things like patching and assigning all inputs to busses and getting all my outputs going to where ever. At this point I have NOT seen the console surface in person.

So I had a couple of days on and off at times to open up the Midas offline software on my laptop and pre program a show from the comforts at home.

Our room and PA are not the greatest of environments, however I am saying that JUST swapping out the Midas H1K with the Pro 2, I really liked what I heard for the better. Now let me say I’m simply comparing this to our current console, room and PA setup. The whole sound of the system had more clarity and the highs were discreet to me and pleasant. It was bigger without the mud and the notes were more clear. Actually I heard things I liked better! The Bass guitar was clearer to me than our console. We currently run an analog Midas Heritage 1K and this Pro 2 stepped up to the task. I can see where some might say the bottom end was too heavy for them, I enjoyed it. The top end had great clarity yet still subtle. So over all, the sound was very nice, the bottom was thick and the warmth, I felt, was there.
